The South Beach Diet, Phase 2

I started Phase 2 of the South Beach Diet today. I lost 10.4 pounds on Phase 1 as of this morning.
I had an apple today for the first time in two weeks. Actually, it’s probably been longer than that. To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I had fruit other than tomatoes on a Margherita pizza or yellow grapefruit juice in my Stoli Greyhounds.
Hmmm. I suppose that explains a great deal of how I got this beer belly.
You know, losing ten pounds in two weeks is pretty good. But In a way I hate to see my ol’ belly go… it cost me a lot of money to acquire.
Anyway, Phase 2 means that I can start adding some food back into my diet. I can have some small portions of fruit, a slice of whole wheat bread and diet Jello pudding cups. Guess which one I’m eating right now.
The South Beach book says that I’ll end up losing only one to two pounds per week now. I suppose that’s a fair trade for getting taste and variety back in my diet. A man can only eat so many Brussels sprouts before he snaps.
I’m telling you. It sure was more fun putting an extra 80 pounds on than trying to get it back off.
Sigh.

Woot! Phase II rocks. Honestly, I didn’t really have a problem with phase I, but I will tell you, once I entered phase II, I developed a new love for apples. Be careful though, some foods just don’t jive with some people. For me, I have to avoid grains as much as I can. I don’t totally eliminate them, but they cause cravings for me, so I do limit them. Congrats!

Congrats on the weight loss! I started phase II today and lost almost 5 pounds in Phase I (trying to lose 20 lbs total). I am super excited about my one whole wheat tortilla for lunch today and my banana! But honestly I didn’t despise Phase I as much as I thought, I hope it continues to be this “easy”!

Lindsey, trust me, I know the feeling (being excited about a single bland tortilla). My lunch today is lettuce, an apple and kippers. Mmmm.

10# in two weeks is great… I have lost 6 pounds in two weeks, which isn’t super great but is something… especially when I’ve eat things I shouldn’t… I have no will power.

YM, 6 pounds in two weeks is nothing to sneeze at, especially in these days of Swine Flu. Keep doing your best. Even if you are sneaking bad foods every now and then you are still doing better than you would be if you were eating bad foods all the time. So, smile!

Good job losing 10lbs! I’m doing it too, well, not South Beach, but just watching my diet and exercising. I’ve got 100lbs to lose so I’m there with you trying to get it off! Like you said, it was a lot more fun putting it on than taking it off!

You guys are all on the right track, stick with it, I’m 6 foot and weighed 264 lbs Jan 1st of this year, I started south beach and now down to 225 (only 25 more to go) but the biggest think is I feel so much better, lots more energy and have been eager to try new recipes nightly (been out of work from layoff in october 2008, so wife is still full time and loving me cooking as well)… Stay with it, its not a diet, its a new way of eating and eating healthy, once you grasp that concept, you easily pass the Golden Arches of McD;s and not think twice… if your force it on yourself your likely to fail, make the choice to eat right and get fit and enjoy the occassional weekness (cheesecake and Baseball nut icecream are mine)…. Good luck to you all, you can do it, trust me if we can, anyone can…..
